Transglobal Sessions 2026
Every 3rd Sunday | March–November
Come along for an afternoon of intercultural music-sharing — bring a song, a rhythm, an instrument, or just your listening ears. These sessions are about connection, collaboration, and community. Global Music Block Party at @aucklandartsfestival
Saturday 14 March 12-4pm at the Rova Stage, Aotea Square!

Transglobal Matariki Residency

Step into Matariki with four days of music, learning, and deep connection — with each other and the whenua. This residency is for musicians who want to grow their skills in intercultural music-making and group facilitation, drawing on Ethno music pedagogy from the wider Ethno World movement. What’s included: Ethno-inspired sessions with experienced facilitators Tools for holding space in group settings Inclusive music practice and intercultural approaches Plenty of jamming, sharing, kai, and connection Time to ground into the land and community as we enter the Māori New Year Who is this experience for? Open to musicians of all ages and backgrounds — especially great for: People working in music education Music professionals Musicians from communities less represented in the Aotearoa music scene Learning outcomes By the end of the residency, participants will have had opportunities to: Deepen their skills in intercultural music-sharing and collaborative music-making Explore peer to peer based learning and Ethno-inspired approaches to sharing and learning music in group setting Strengthen skills and build confidence to support inclusive participation and welcoming diverse musical backgrounds in creative learning spaces Experience practical tools for facilitating music with others (in classrooms, community groups, ensembles, and informal settings) Reflect on their own practice, positionality, and ways of working in intercultural contexts Connect with other musicians, educators, and facilitators in a supportive learning community We know everyone comes with different goals - this residency is designed to support both personal growth and professional learning. ✅ Only 20 spaces available (registration essential) 📍 Aio Wira Retreat Centre: https://www.aiowira.org.nz
